One of the biggest threats to agriculture today is the disconnect between consumers and food production. Less than three percent of Canadians have a direct connection to the farm anymore, which is why it’s not surprising that so many people have questions and doubts about farming and food.
For those of us who work in agriculture, it’s important to be able to communicate about how we produce food in Canada. As farmers, ranchers, industry representatives and researchers, we must be transparent, authentic and relatable, especially when tough questions or inaccurate claims are raised.
Farm & Food Care wants to help! We provide Speak Up training that describes the average Canadian consumer, what they know about farming and how they think about food. It also gives participants the ability to tell their stories in an easy-to-understand and compelling manner and how to have a positive, meaningful conversation about food and farming. Plus, Speak-Up Training coaches participants on handling difficult subjects. This is valuable for media interviews, farm tours, council meetings, service clubs, school groups and other situations where you are tasked with answering hard consumer questions about how food is produced.
Help prepare your Board and spokespersons to better communicate about agriculture. Farm & Food Care offers in-person workshops as well as individual online training. Principal, Partner and Supporter members of Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan have access to a quantity of free training opportunities that come with membership.
