Trust in agriculture is critical to our future
We continue to see gaps in the public’s trust in food production. There is growing concern about the practices farmers follow and the tools we use to grow food. This can prompt policymakers to tighten regulations, leading to increased costs and concerns for farmers and agribusinesses. A lack of trust in our processes can hinder innovation and adoption of new farming methods, technologies, and sustainable practices that have the potential to improve food production and environmental impact.
That’s where we come in. Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan works to bring sustainability and trust to our food system, our economy and our communities.
We pride ourselves on collaborating with others across the industry and across the country, working together to achieve more. We especially love to partner wherever we can with Agriculture in the Classroom, the organization that focuses on teachers and classrooms across Canada. Our focus is consumers, which covers really everyone else. It’s a big job!
We work to encourage Canadians to view the agriculture industry as sustainable, caring, and innovative, with the aim of changing consumer attitudes, behaviours and public policy. The kinds of activities we carry out include farm tours, presentations, online information and outreach, modern farming images, conferences and seminars and training for ag communicators.
It’s the members of Farm & Food Care that both demand and allow us to build trust in farming and food. Our 63 member organizations cover the gamut from crops, horticulture and livestock to research institutes, food processors and government agencies.
By supporting Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan, members are achieving more than checking the box on public trust initiatives. Membership in FFC SK is an investment in:
A stable and secure food system
By increasing food literacy from fork to farm, we enable consumers to make informed choices about the food they purchase and consume. When consumers buy products that are made in Canada, they not only support Canadian farmers, but ensure a robust, stable, and secure food system for all Canadians.
Assurance of environmental sustainability
By working to ensure consumers understand and trust our methods, we help the industry adopt innovative technologies and sustainable practices that increase its resilience to climate change while reducing its environmental impact.
Continued economic growth and learning
By providing our industry with opportunities for learning, communication, and collaboration, we foster professional development and train future leaders, helping to sustain livelihoods, support local businesses, and maintain strong economies.
A voice for our industry
By encouraging and supporting conversations with consumers, we help producers better advocate for research, development, and innovation to ensure the future of our industry —and provide homegrown, wholesome food for generations to come.
