The Food Influencer Program works to identify "influencers"— people in a position to have an impact on others' food choices. This initiative targets food influencers; those who are established in their careers with some connection to the food industry, such as: chefs, food writers, bloggers, television personalities and dietitians.
This program offers guests an opportunity to experience working farms, ranches and processing facilities and to speak directly with the people who produce food. Past tour stops have included visits to a grain farm, cattle ranch, dairy, greenhouse, research facilities and food manufacturers. The tour usually also showcases cultural and historic landmarks as well as some of Saskatchewan’s finest chefs and restaurants.
Participants also take part in seminars which provide an overview of agriculture, food safety and biosecurity, the use of pesticides and biotechnology such as genetic engineering, and Q&A sessions. Tour alumni use what they’ve learned in their future communications and many go on to work on other projects with Canadian producer organizations.
