Clinton still farms with his wife and children and extended family on a grain and egg farm in Saskatchewan and cattle ranch in Oklahoma. He is also the Executive Director of Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan whose mission is to help connect consumers with agriculture.\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\nAlan GenestVP Operations at Great Western Brewing Company Allan is the Vice President of Operations at Great Western Brewing. Allan has been in the brewing industry for almost 20 years. He was born and raised in Harris\, Saskatchewan and was active in the family farm there. He is also a journeyman electrician who worked in process and automation in the dairy industry for 14 years before joining Great Western Brewing. Allan obtained his Business Administration Certification from the University of Saskatchewan in 2007.\n\n\n\nJenna SarichCanadian Cattle Association Jenna is a Technical Research Consultant and writer with the Canadian Cattle Association. She also is writing the National Beef Sustainability Assessment report for Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef. Her job is to seek\, track and analyze research relevant to the beef industry and disseminate the information into key messages for stakeholders. Jenna recently defended her master’s thesis at the University of Saskatchewan.\n\n\n\nMarcel VermetteRancher\, Farmer\, Stock Dog Trainer Marcel and his wife Jolie have a cattle ranch near Outlook\, SK\, where they also raise several types of vegetables and other crops. In addition\, the Vermettes run Rafter V Ranch Dog\, where they train border collies and English pocket beagles as stock dogs to help ranchers herd their cattle. The cattle on their ranch often eat ‘imperfect’ crops that can’t be sold into the human food market.

DESCRIPTION:Let’s have a meal and learn about farming! Meals from the Farm will provide a unique opportunity for kids and communities to learn more about where their food comes from. \n\n\n\nIn cooperation with Ag in the Classroom Saskatchewan\,  FFC SK will offer a virtual tour or a broiler chicken barn and live Q&A session with Tiffany Martinka\, A chicken farmer from Saskatchewan.  It will culminate in the delivery of a free lunch to about 2\,000 school kids in the province\, along with a Meals From the Farm participant kit that includes snacks\, activities\, pencils\, recipes and more provided by our project partners.  \n\n\n\nIn addition\, Farm & Food Care coordinates several interactive online activities such as virtual farm tours and agriculture trivia contests for students to learn more about how food is grown in Saskatchewan. \n\n\n\nMeals From the Farm includes giving back in our communities as well as in our classrooms. DESCRIPTION:Our farmers and researchers are developing new ways to meet the challenges of food security\, climate change\, food waste and others\, but will we be allowed to use and advance these technologies? \n\n\n\nNutrition warning labels on packaged meat\, fertilizer use limitations\, novel traits in new crop varieties… Policy-makers are increasingly considering more regulation and restriction in agriculture. These policy decisions arise from a lack of understanding and acceptance of modern agricultural science and practices. Meanwhile\, well-funded anti-agriculture groups are developing slick advertising campaigns to convince the public that agriculture is destructive and new technology is dangerous. \n\n\n\nIt has been said across the agricultural spectrum that what we need is to influence public perception and to help consumers understand farming and food\, yet funding for public trust works out to only 0.018% of farm cash receipts in 2020 in Saskatchewan alone. Many ag groups are doing what they can\, but few fund in large amounts because results are only achieved through long-term\, continued efforts that benefit the whole industry more often than specific players. \n\n\n\nMeet with others in the industry\n\n\n\nThis is not an issue that one organization can tackle on its own. What can we do\, within our own organizations and working together\, to amplify our efforts to build public trust in agriculture? \n\n\n\nFarm & Food Care Saskatchewan is coordinating a meeting of stakeholders on February 14\, 2023 (1PM to 4PM) to discuss how we can raise more dollars to tackle public trust in agriculture. DESCRIPTION:Let’s have a meal and learn about farming! This event will merge two of our previous programs into one: Ag in the City and Breakfast From the Farm. Meals from the Farm will provide a unique opportunity for kids and communities to learn more about where their food comes from. \n\n\n\nIn cooperation with Ag in the Classroom Saskatchewan\,  FFC SK will offer a series of online webinars with farmers and chefs about farming and cooking with Saskatchewan-grown foods. It will culminate in the delivery of a free lunch to about 1\,000 school kids in the province. We’re also investigating hosting two more meals with community support organizations. Stay tuned! In addition to a hot lunch\, FFC SK will provide a pamphlet with information about Saskatchewan food and farming practices and a copy of The Real Dirt on Farming publication. There will also be a Meals From the Farm online resource page with additional learning about different types farming and food production.

Her publicly-funded research and outreach program focuses on the use of animal genomics and biotechnology in livestock production systems. Her current research projects include the development of genome editing approaches for cattle. \n\n\n\nShe has given over 700 invited presentations to audiences globally and uses a variety of media to inform general public audiences about science and technology. She frequently provides a credentialed voice on controversial scientific topics and has appeared on national media\, including The Dr Oz Show\, NPR\, Science Friday\, and the Intelligence Squared debate series. She appeared in the 2017 documentary Food Evolution\, narrated by science communicator Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson. DESCRIPTION:Interested in learning more about life on a for-real cattle ranch? Join Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan online on October 13 for a chance to see a modern rancher at work. \n\n\n\nOver the past year\, Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan has been working with Erika Stewart\, a rancher from Morse\, Saskatchewan\, to produce an online series called ‘A Year in the Life on Pine Ranch’ that is shared on Canadian Food Focus. Each month\, Erika shares a behind-the-scenes look at ranching life\, posting videos that help explain things like weaning\, calving\, vaccination…even how ranchers use ear tags and set up solar-powered water troughs. \n\n\n\nErika is a third-generation rancher and also the coordinator for the Verified Beef Production+ program in Saskatchewan. “I love this life and this industry\,” Erika says. “I’m very passionate about it and I want to share this\, give some insight into our lives as ranchers and hopefully answer questions about what actually happens on a cattle ranch in western Canada.” \n\n\n\nAt 1:00 PM CST on Wednesday\, October 13\, Erika will share video highlights from her ranch over the past year\, then Clinton Monchuk\, Farm & Food Care’s Executive Director\, will host a Q&A session for participants to ask Erika about life as a rancher. \n\n\n\nJoin us!
