About

SaskMilk is a producer marketing board for the over 150 dairy farms in our province. Saskatchewan dairy farms produce over 815,000 litres of milk every day!

Many dairy farms in the province use voluntary milking systems, which are robotic milking machines. Cows are milked automatically whenever they choose. The robot keeps track of how many times a day they’ve been milked and feeds them a treat every time they get milked.

More than 2,600 people work on dairy farms in Saskatchewan. When you add the people who work in milk processing, there are more than 4,800 people who work in the dairy industry.

Did you know?

  • Dairy products include milk, cream, butter, yogurt, and everyone’s favourite, ice cream! And so many kinds of cheese: cheddar, havarti, mozzarella, gouda, ricotta…
  • Holsteins are the most popular milking cows in Canada, and are easily recognizable by their black and white spotted hides.
  • Milk products are an important part of a healthy diet, providing up to 15 nutrients that contribute to good health, including calcium, vitamin D and protein which keep the body functioning properly and help reduce the risk of certain diseases.
  • Dairy products are important for healthy bones. The calcium in milk products helps build strong bones and prevent osteoporosis.
