About
There are about 10,000 oat producers in Western Canada who produce more than 3.5 million tonnes of oats each year. SaskOats represents the oat farmers in Saskatchewan who support research, market development and outreach to strengthen the oat industry in our province.
Canada is the largest oat exporter in the world, and Saskatchewan is the largest oat-growing province. We use about 50% of the oats we grow here in Canada and the other 50% are exported. Between 75-90% of our exports go to the United States.
Did you know?

- Oats are high in a dietary fiber called beta glucan, which helps lower cholesterol as well as help control your appetite.
- Eating cooked oats is associated with a better diet, better nutrient intake and reduced risk of heart disease and diabetes. Plus, eating oats can even help you sleep better! Maybe this is why some people call them a superfood!
- About 19 pounds of oatmeal can be made from one bushel of oats. Or one bushel of oats can make about 50 twelve-ounce (340 g) boxes of Cheerios!
- Oat extracts can also be used to soothe skin conditions, and are popular for their moisturizing properties in shampoos, lotions and other cosmetics.
- Of the eight amino acids necessary for life, oatmeal contains six.
