Every year, the Government of Saskatchewan proclaims October as Agriculture Month. Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan is proud to quarterback the Agriculture Month awareness campaign in the province. Our objective is to help the public better understand and appreciate Saskatchewan agriculture and to inspire pride in all those who work in the ag sector.
We continued using the hashtag #CelebrateAg, building on the momentum around this simple idea to celebrate the food we grow in Saskatchewan and the farmers and ranchers who produce it. We were fortunate to again partner with Federated Co-operatives, Cargill and Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association on this campaign.
Our theme for Agriculture Month this year was “Celebrating Our Achievements”. Staff contacted each of our major member groups to collect industry facts and then produced series of posts, graphics and videos.
In addition to sector achievements, our Ag Month campaign also celebrated the contributions of individuals to our industry by highlighting past Farm & Food Care Champions and encouraging nominations for this year’s winner.
Farm & Food Care was also out in the community for Agriculture Month.
On September 29, Farm & Food Care and Chicken Farmers of Saskatchewan sponsored a “meal from the farm” at the Saskatoon Friendship Inn, featuring a chicken dinner and cash donation to this important cause. On October 3, we joined with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Centre for a press conference to kick off Agriculture Month and celebrate new investment and innovation at the Food Centre. As well, we partnered with Canadian Cattle Association on October 4 to present “Reduce, Reuse, Ruminate”, a film presentation and panel discussion at the University of Saskatchewan. Attendees watched the documentary, then held a discussion with a cattle researcher, a brewer and a farmer about the ways the ag industry is working to reduce food waste.
Our online photo contest encouraged Saskatchewan residents to join the celebration by sharing their photos of farm scenes, people, crops, animals, innovations, farm history, or a meal from the farm. By month’s end, the contest had more than 120 entries. Click here to view the contest gallery.
Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan was honoured to lead the charge for Agriculture Month. Initial analysis shows the campaign reached over 2 million in 2023. Thanks to all who helped #CelebrateAg in the province! Special thanks to our Ag Month partners, especially Federated Cooperatives, who sponsored the prizes for our photo campaign!
