Canadian Food Focus and Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan were pleased to work with Chicken Farmers of Saskatchewan (CFS) on their recent project to create a new virtual chicken farm tour experience for consumers.
Funded through CFS’ Saskatchewan Chicken Industry Development Fund (SCIDF) and the provincial Agriculture Awareness Initiative Program (AAIP), the project involved filming two different videos, as well as three complete demonstration kits, each with headsets, controller tablet, portable charging case and chairs to sit on.
The intent of the project was to help educate the public, especially youth, about what modern chicken farming looks like in Saskatchewan. It features two guided versions:
- A youth-friendly tour, led by young Saskatchewan farmers and designed to connect with kids using age-appropriate language and explanations.
- An adult version, led by an experienced local farmer who speaks to animal welfare, sustainability, food safety, and modern farm practices.
Aspen Films was tasked with shooting the 360 video at a farm in northeast Saskatchewan last March. CFS invited Canadian Food Focus to attend. Angela Larson, Communications Manager for Canadian Food Focus, and Frank Cuevas, Programs & Engagement Manager for Chicken Farmers, were both onsite to help direct how the videos would look and how the experience would come together.
Canadian Food Focus also prepared blog content, video highlights, and social media posts and will share the finished video through CFF digital channels.
Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan provided support with project coordination as well as promotion through the FFC SK website, social media platforms, and at public trust events.
In fact, FFC SK had the opportunity to try out the new virtual chicken tours at the White Buffalo Youth Lodge Backpack Giveaway Day in Saskatoon August 14. The Saskatchewan chicken videos complement the many other virtual farm tours from the national FarmFood 360 suite of videos FFC SK already offers with its exhibit. Almost 400 people stopped by that day to see what it looked like inside barns and farms.
