About

Canola Eat Well is about inspiring you in the kitchen and connecting you to the farm with Canada’s oil, canola oil. CanolaEatWell.com is a joint partnership between Alberta Canola, Manitoba Canola Growers and SaskCanola.

Canola is a “made in Canada” crop that was developed through traditional plant breeding techniques. In fact, it is the number one cooking oil in Canada and Japan and the number two oil in Mexico and the United States. Overall, it is the third-most consumed cooking oil in the world.

Canola oil is prized for its heart-healthy properties and contains the least amount of saturated fat of all common culinary oils.

Did you know?

  • Canola got its name from “Canada” and “ola”, which means oil.
  • Canola is a member of the Brassicaceae family – the same botanical family as broccoli, turnips, rutabaga, cabbage, cauliflower, and mustard.
  • Saskatchewan is the world’s largest producer of canola and a world center for canola research and development. There are more than 20,000 farmers growing canola in Saskatchewan—and this is 50% of all the canola grown across Canada.
  • Canada exports more than 90 per cent of our canola to 50 different markets around the globe.
  • Canola oil contains an ideal ratio of essential omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and is also a good source of vitamins E and K.
