Canadian Agricultural Safety Week (CASW) is an annual campaign led by the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) from March 15-21, 2026, dedicated to promoting safety awareness and best practices across the agricultural sector. The Government of Saskatchewan each year proclaims this week as Agricultural Safety Week in Saskatchewan showing a strong commitment to protecting farm workers and fostering a culture of safety throughout the province.

The 2026 CASW themes highlight several critical areas essential for farm safety, including emergency preparedness, machinery safety, livestock handling, rail and road safety, and the vital role of women in agriculture. The week serves as a reminder for farmers, ranchers, families, and agricultural workers to adopt proactive safety measures, pursue proper training, and utilize available safety resources to prevent accidents before they happen. As Saskatchewan gears up for the upcoming planting season, prioritizing safety has never been more important.
Statistics emphasize the importance of this initiative. According to Canadian Agricultural Injury Reporting, between 2011 and 2020, there were 624 fatalities related to agriculture across Canada, averaging 62 deaths each year. More than half of these incidents involved machinery, and many victims were farm owner/operators or their children. Many of these tragedies are preventable, which is why CASW offers a comprehensive range of tools, courses, and resources aimed at reducing injuries and saving lives.
CASA’s training programs equip farmers and workers with the knowledge to identify risks and manage hazards effectively. For more information on CASA’s online safety courses and safety resources, visit https://casa-acsa.ca/en/canadian-agricultural-safety-week/
The Government of Saskatchewan continues to invest in safety initiatives and educational programs as well. See: https://www.saskatchewan.ca/business/safety-in-the-workplace/hazards-and-prevention/safety-in-professions-and-industry/farm-safety

Community members across Saskatchewan can show their support for farm safety by wearing an AgSafe ribbon that can be downloaded here: https://casa-acsa.ca/en/canadian-agricultural-safety-week/ribbons/ and by using the hashtag #FarmSafetyEveryday on social media.
Canadian Agricultural Safety Week 2026 emphasizes the importance of safety in farming. By embracing proactive safety practices, and continuing education efforts, Saskatchewan and the Canadian agricultural community can work together to reduce accidents and protect the health and well-being of farmers, ranchers, their families, and all farm workers. Through collective effort and shared resources, the vision of safer farms and resilient rural communities is within reach.
